Pengaruh Mulsa Calopogonium terhadap Pertumbuhan dan Hasil
Tanaman Cabai (Capsicum annuum L.)

Calopogonium mulch is used to minimize water evaporation and may possible
increase soil fertility and ultimately enhances the growth and yield of crop. Thus,
experiments were conducted to improve soil moisture, soil fertility, plant growth and
yield of chilli, by applying different levels of calopogonium mulch. The objective of
this research was to know the effect of calopogonium mulch on soil water content,
soil hardness, plant growth, and yield of chilli. The experiment was conducted in
Kendari from May until Agustus 2018 at the Dry Land Experimental Station, Agricultural
Faculty, Halu Oleo University, Kendari. The experiment was arranged in a randomized
block design with three levels of calopogonium mulch (i.e. without mulch, 0.5 kg of
calopogonium mulch m-2 and 1 kg calopogonium mulch m-2 in five replications. The
results showed that the calopogonium mulch with different amount of colopogonium
mulch decreased soil hardness, increased soil moisture, increased growth, number
and weight of Capsicum fruit. Calopogonium mulch 0.5 kg m-2, dan calopogonium
mulch 1 kg m-2 increased fruit number by 44% dan 48%, increased fruit weight by
43% and 44%, as compared to control without mulch. Calopogonium mulch can be
recommended for improving soil moisture, soil fertility and yield of chilli.
